A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
