A senior Russian military figure has been killed following an explosion in Moscow, according to reports from authorities.

The incident took place on Monday morning when an bomb placed beneath a vehicle exploded, resulting in the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' department for training operations.

Investigators stated that one theory under investigation suggests the alleged involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. So far, Ukraine has not issued a comment.

Location of the Incident

Officials have been dispatched to the site, which is reportedly in a south district of the capital.

Reports suggest the detonation occurred in a vehicle lot near a residential building.

History of Targeted Attacks

Since the beginning of the extensive conflict in Ukraine, a series of Russian military commanders have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.

This new event follows other serious incidents, including:

• General Yaroslav Moskalik was lost his life in a car bomb attack in Moscow earlier this year.
• General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a device hidden on a scooter was detonated remotely.

While a source from Ukraine earlier attributed Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are not officially confirmed as a matter of policy.

The conflict has witnessed covert operations reaching into the heart of the Russian capital.
