Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for doubts to be raised about his position following another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant support from above,” the coach stated.

“It would be great to change things and get a victory naturally but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Talks with Club Management

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Failings and Player Response

The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.

“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell like this with results this poor.”

He concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we'll continue to battle.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
