Brian Eno Calls On Public Help to Send Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A campaign is aiming to send a cultural melody to the Christmas number one spot. The project hopes to send support to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a chance to support Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, festive releases are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The single was laid down after a large-scale benefit event held in September. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the performance was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of artists contributing to Lullaby features a selection of well-known figures from the scene. All took part in the September show, which successfully generated a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a group of producers and composers. The single showcases a combination of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the initiative have clarified that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These resources will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a spokesperson commented. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The situation in the region was described as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of infrastructure said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is primarily raising awareness for this issue and proving that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from mid-December.
