Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
