The Details Known Regarding the Those Lost of the Bondi Terrorist Incident

A minimum of 16 people were killed and more than 40 sustained injuries when assailants fired on a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident local authorities have labeled a act of terrorism.

As of the newest reports, officials have confirmed the number of fatalities remains at 16, which includes one of the alleged attackers. Moreover, 42 wounded individuals were admitted to medical facilities.

The victims are still awaiting publicly named, but police believe their ages are from 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.

Described as a father of five children, he worked as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and acquaintances remembered him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a family member said.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their youngest child just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, according to his wife.

She told the moments before the attack, stating they had been standing together when the shooting erupted. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.

The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured immense hardship in their youth. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

The French foreign ministry have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

Officially, a senior official declared that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the message read.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the a children's hospital succumbed to her injuries, according to police reports.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was also killed during the attack, as per multiple sources referencing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

From the 42 people taken to hospitals, a significant number remain under care, with a number in critical condition. Those hurt include two officers who attended the scene.

A casualty is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the attackers. Hailed as a local hero, he received gunshot wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Sources state he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.

He wrote, he recounted the incident as an “horrific scene,” but also noted the actions of those who rushed to help. He stated he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the shooting. He described he listened to “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.

“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
