The Two Fatalities Revealed in Brown University Incident as Authorities Continue Search for Gunman.

Both young individuals who were killed in the weekend's tragic incident in Providence were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their killer persisted following the release by local law enforcement of the single suspect of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was called “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, according to the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

She served as second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, the group said. The White House press secretary also posted words of sorrow on social media, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, above all her mom and dad.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his initial year at the renowned school, family members said.

The victim's identification was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He harbored grand aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.

Details of the Attack

An additional nine individuals were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-old male detained in a raid at a lodging about approximately 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was being released.

“There is a killer at large,” stated Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last approximately one day.”

Ongoing Concerns

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our public”.

The gunman opened fire inside a room in the engineering building on over the weekend, shooting over four dozen bullets from a handgun, a law enforcement official informed the Associated Press.

Law enforcement that entered the hotel recovered two handguns and two loaded 30-round magazines when the individual was taken into custody, the news agency reported.

Those Hurt

Of the nine hurt, one student was allowed to go home, mentioned the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

A private school, a private K-12 school in North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

More Condolences

Cook was honored at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only in her youth... but at Brown University she was a shining example in that institution as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the group. “Ella was known for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she worked for her branch and other students,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the passing of Umurzokov in a tribute. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the Umurzokov family, companions, and schoolmates and lament the passing of his promising future.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the country's seventh most historic higher education institution with about thousands of bachelor's and postgraduate students, took place amid one of at least 392 mass shootings reported in the US so far in the current year, according to statistics. That Monday marked the 349th day of the year.
