Alina Habba has left her position as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This comes after a legal ruling that questioned her eligibility to hold the office.
Acceptance of Resignation
The head of the Justice Department, the Attorney General, confirmed her stepping down on the start of the week. In a statement that the court's "flawed" ruling made it unworkable for the official to perform her duties.
"Do not interpret compliance for surrender," Habba stated. "This battle will now stretch across the nation."

Her resignation follows closely on a federal appellate panel ruled that she had been acting without proper authority as the federal prosecutor. This judgment is could influence numerous prosecutions in New Jersey.
The appellate judges declared that a temporary posting that did not receive the advice and consent of the Senate breached the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.
Future Role and Reaction
The Attorney General added that Habba will stay on at the DOJ as a high-level advisor. Habba plans to challenge the decision of the ruling, in the hope of achieving a reversal.
On a social media platform, she contended that judges "must not countermand the President's choice of attorneys tasked with carrying out the fundamental role of the presidency of criminal prosecution."

Bondi commended the prosecutor's work and noted that under her leadership, the Newark saw a one-fifth decrease in criminal activity. It was also reported that the southern city of Camden experienced its initial homicide-free summer since 1974 free from homicides.
Legal Career
The 41-year-old attorney, originally became part of the former president's legal defense in recent years. She later represented her client in his New York criminal case in New York last year, leading to his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records.
Earlier, her appointment to the federal prosecutor position, the former president had revealed he was appointing her as his presidential counsellor during his second administration, calling the lawyer as a steadfast ally and a dedicated fighter for justice.
